A God of Details

I think it was perhaps 10 years ago or so I heard someone use the phrase "Our God is a God of details" for the first time. At the time it really resonated with me. I admit it has become a bit of a cliche as I've used it many times since then.

Our lives right now are filled with details. Keep this, sell that, ship this, give away that. Fix this or that in the house. Who will do this or that in the church here that we've been doing for the past 3 years? Lots of things to think about!

We're less than 3 months from leaving Guadalajara and admit to sometimes feeling quite overwhelmed with all that there is to do. Not only are we leaving Mexico but we're going to the US only temporarily and then moving to Quito, Ecuador.

So with all this transition turmoil I came back to the saying, "Our God is a God of details". I thought this morning, "is he really? Where does it say that in the Bible". On my way to drop the kids off at school I thought about just how detailed oriented our Creator is. Here's a few of the things that He brought to my mind:

• He's the God who gave Noah the "blueprint" to build the Ark
• He's the God who gave Moses detailed instructions on how to construct the traveling tabernacle
• He's the God who made sure that something seemingly impossible like a Red Sea or Jordan River didn't get in the way of his will and purposes being accomplished for His chosen people
• He's the God who provided for His people in the desert by sending manna in the morning and quail in the evening
• He's the God who made sure that there was room in the stable so that his Son would come into this world in the little town of Bethlehem just like it has been foretold.
• He's the God who made sure there was a little boy in the crowd with a sack lunch so he could feed over 5000 other people.
• He's the God who's eye is on the sparrow and knows the number of hairs on your head.

So yes, indeed He is a God of details. For us this is becoming more evident each day as we transition out of Mexico. Here are just a few details He's handled...some may seem really big, some really small...but all together they are one huge reminder that God will never leave us nor forsake us...that He truly is a God of details.

• After months of praying (and you praying too!) He brought us Alfredo and Nayeli to take over the leadership of the youth group of our church Leon de Juda. This couple have a heart and passion to see the group grow and reach out to the community.
• He has provided a way for my (Bill's) folks to visit us one last time (this coming April) and take some of the extra stuff back to the US that we wouldn't be able to carry ourselves.
• He provided cheaper than budgeted airfare from Guadalajara to Colorado to California to Colorado to Quito, Ecuador.
• After having sent out a for sale list to literally only 6 families (and they in turn telling their friends) the vast majority of our furniture and appliances and other for sale items are "sold" or almost sold. This less than 5 days after sending out the list.
• He has put on the hearts of two women in our church to take over the nursery coordination that Sarah has been doing for the past few years.
• He is working in the hearts of a couple women who are considering taking over Sarah's leadership of the weekly women's prayer time at church
• He has given a passion for music to Paulo, a 15 year old kid in our church who has a desire to learn the keyboard to hopefully replace Bill when he leaves. In the meantime Paulo serves God with the great voice God gifted to him.
• He softened the glue on a large 1500 piece fish puzzle that Nathan and Bill put together (and glued) so that it could be broken into three pieces and packed with us. (See the picture). This was indeed a big deal and is just an example of how God is caring for our children through this process in which they are having to let go of much that has become very familiar to them.

The list goes on and we're confident it will get larger as we get closer to our May 10 departure from Mexico and August 5th arrival in Quito.
